Martin Hayes Quartet and Brothers of the Free Reed

The great East Clare fiddler Martin Hayes commands greater reverence and awe than almost any contemporary folk artist – primarily in his uncannily symbiotic duo with guitarist Dennis Cahill. Now two become four, as they’re joined by classically-trained Irish-American fiddler Liz Knowles (String Sisters) and bass clarinettist Doug Wieselman (Lou Reed/Laurie Anderson/Antony and the Johnsons). The foursome’s newly-released first album, The Blue Room, recorded live and largely impromptu, is nothing short of revelatory.

Bringing together the virtuoso talents of Tim Edey, Dermot Byrne and Luke Daniels, Brothers of the Free Reed explore the complementary and contrasting capacities of their diatonic accordions in a prodigious display of like-minded musicianship.
