Bellini to Boudin

five centuries of painting in the Burrell Collection

For the first time, the Burrell Collection is devoting its main temporary gallery space to a display of over 40 jewels of the fine art collection, allowing visitors to experience a wide range of periods, styles and techniques in a single space. Well known works include Bellini’s Virgin and Child, a selection of works by Degas, the Rembrandt Self-portrait, The Beach at Trouville, the Empress Eugenie, by Boudin and Cezanne’s Chateau du Medan. Less familiar works include Whistler’s Nocturne: Grey and Gold Westminster Bridge – just back from loan in London, the most expensive painting Burrell bought; and Sir John Lavery’s portrait of Mary Burrell, Sir William’s younger sister.
